Happy Wednesday!
We had such a great day we picked two names from our prize box today! You can see how excited we got! The clues kept us on our toes as it could have been several students based on the clues that were given. Let's hope tomorrow is another great day to capture more of these moments!

Inquiry into Math
As a class we took up our homework from yesterday. When we didn't agree on an answer we discussed what made some of our answers were incorrect by interpreting what they represented.
Then students broke into boy-girl partners to engage in a math game around comparing and ordering decimals. Once they got to engage with decimals we also discussed how they could use a place value chart to help them compare decimals.
I found that when I told students to think of the decimals as money amounts, they were able to determine which one was greater. I encourage them to continue to think of each amount as money to help them accurately compare and order decimals.
Some of their homework revolves around adding and subtracting decimals. This can go realllly bad if we do not line up our decimals. To demonstrate what this should look like I had a couple students come up to show how they think the would write these addition and subtraction problems vertically. It got tricky when one of the numbers I was subtracting had more digits than the other.
Remember: Always start with lining up your decimals first, then the rest of your numbers just fall into place. Also, just like when adding and subtracting money, we want to make sure that all of the decimal values we add and subtract have two digits to the right of the decimal (up until our hundredth place value)
Learning experience: The crossed out version is the incorrect way of writing the numbers! Thank you Grade 3s for taking such risks in front of the class!

Inquiry into Language
We learned all about Dialogue today! We explored quotation marks by discussing punctuation and capitalization rules that exist when we incorporate dialogue in our writing. For example, we discussed where a comma goes when the dialogue tag is placed after the dialogue vs. where the comma goes when the dialogue tag comes before the dialogue. The video below helps explain the placement of commas when incorporating dialogue in our writing.
We also learned what a dialogue tag is! Dialogue tags tells you who is talking and how they may have delivered/said that information.
In addition to learning about dialogue, we learned about personal and imaginative narratives. We watched a series of videos that walked us through the narrative writing process. Through these videos we learned:
- how to brainstorm ideas before we begin to write
- how to plan out our story
- what is included in a draft and how to expand our ideas
- how to revise our draft: take out unimportant information, change words, add details, etc.
- how to edit our draft: look for spelling, punctuation and capitalization errors
After each video we stopped to reflect on what we learned about each step in the writing process. We also reflected on the difference between a personal narrative and an imaginative narrative. Tomorrow students will begin to brainstorm ideas to write their narrative on a topic provided and possibly begin their rough draft.

Unit of Inquiry
Our learning goal was to learn about different safety devices that exist and how they help protect us from forces. We completed a reading together and discussed the different safety devices that were presented in the pictures on their worksheet. As a class, we completed an example of how each safety device protects us from the force that would act on those objects. Students worked with the peers around them to complete the rest of this worksheet. They all completed it in class so NO UOI HOMEWORK YAAAY!!
