Reading Buddies
We had reading buddies with Ms. Gandy's class this morning. We picked some books from Ms. Gandy's library to read to our reading buddies. Some of them ever took the opportunity to read to us!

Dance Party
After reading buddies we had our dance party since the students were hooked on a song walking back from reading buddies. It was a song we listened to already, however this time they sang to it.

Unit of Inquiry
We reflected on what happened during some of our experiments last week to help us identify whether all forces require contact to have an effect on an object. We concluded that not all forces require contact to have an effect on an object. The forces that do not require contact are: gravity, static electricity and magnetic force.
We read through a little blurb together, then rephrased what the instructions asked us to do. As a class, we brainstormed how we were going to complete the task by thinking of what would be the best way to organize our response. Then we reviewed what the instructions asked us to do to ensure we completed all parts of the task.
Some groups also had the opportunity to present the workouts they came up with when learning about muscular force.

Inquiry into Math
We explored tenths and hundredths a little further today. We looked at how we can express a fraction as a decimal, including proper and mixed fractions. When looking at this, we talked about how we know when we have a number to the left of the decimal; when the numerator of a fraction is larger than the denominator. This is because this means we have more than a whole
To help us understand how many tenths make up a hundredth, we changed the value of our base-ten blocks to represent tenths and hundredths. As a class, we looked at how we can identify the fraction and decimal of a picture representation, along with how we can draw a picture representation for the fraction/decimal provided.
We looked at how we divide the numerator by denominator (100) by moving the decimal two places to the left.
When representing tenths, we got a little confused between whether there should be a zero in the tenth place or not. To help us remember, think "what does the numerator represent?!? If I have 8 tenths, what would that value be.... 80, therefore the value after the decimal is 80.
However, when representing hundredths, we have to keep in mind if the value of the numerator is less than 10 then we should have a zero in the tenths place of the decimal representation.

Inquiry into Language
Students are to complete Lesson 22 from their Spelling workbook and sentences for this lesson. We had a discussion today of how to make our sentences "Super Sentences". Super sentences should: beginning with a capital letter, end with a punctuation mark and include details and interesting vocabulary to expand on their thoughts. We did some examples together of how to change a simple sentence into a SUPER SENTENCE!
** Also, our sentences should show the meaning of the list word. We should not be using our list words as a title of something, or to say it's somebodies name. I.e. "Her name was Pencil and she was really nice."
