Inquiry into Math:
Using the data we collected yesterday from our Grade 3 surveys, we created bar graphs, pictographs and double bar graphs the represent this data. We only had to represent our data in one of the graphs listed above. We did a fantastic job at recalling the components of the type of graph we selected. In addition to this our graphs were neatly organized. Come check them out outside our classroom!!

We then had an opportunity to check out the Ancient Civilization artifacts the Grade 5 students made. Well done Grade 5s!! We were really impressed with what you all created!

RECESS/ LUNCH

Inquiry into Math:
Today we discussed what surveys are and why we conduct them. It's important to understand that the information we collect through surveys is called data. We looked at how clues from data provided could help us determine what the survey question could have been. In addition to this we looked at some topics for surveys and came up with good survey questions we could use to gather data. We then discussed the importance of categories in a survey: the options people get to pick from. When doing this we discussed the importance of the "other" category. This allows participants to provide more accurate data than just selecting one of the few categories provided. When selecting categories to include, we discussed the importance of thinking about the people we are surveying to ensure that they can relate to those categories. Gathering the most data in the "other" category doesn't always provide us with much information that we would need to make conclusions.

Individually, we came up with survey questions on a topic of choice. Once approved, we had to organize our categories in a tally chart. This will help us organize our data when we conduct our survey. We surveyed our class, then went to Ms. Chiappetta's class to gather information from them. Our data is based on the grade 3 population at St. Jude's. Tomorrow we will work on representing this data in either a bar graph, pictograph or double bar graph.

RECESS/ LUNCH

Inquiry into Language continued:
As a class, we went over how to write letters neatly on a line when writing in cursive. We had to review letters that go above the dotted line in the middle and letters that belong below the line only. Students then worked on 4 pages of cursive writing, while I checked to ensure they were on the right track with each page. We are focusing on neatness and putting forth our best effort. Students then worked on a Quotations review page, where after completing a couple questions they followed up again to ensure they were doing them correctly. The structure in regards to where the punctuation marks belong is very important.

Library & Math were cancelled today
RECESS/ LUNCH

IB Binders and Student- Led Conference Reflection
During our last period students organized their best work pieces and pieces that they thought needed improvement into their corresponding spots in their IB Binders. As a class, we read through the list of social and work skills and students reflected on how they believe they are doing for each of these skills. Students then worked on identifying some strengths and weaknesses they have. We will continue with this tomorrow, reflecting on our weaknesses and seeing how we can turn these into goals for next term.

AGENDA:
- Read for 25 minutes
- Spelling Lesson 12 + Sentences due tomorrow
- Spelling test Friday

Inquiry into Language:
This morning we silently read at our desks. We then reflected and wrote on some of the things we have learned, had fun with this term and areas we need to improve on.

French: Take a look at Mme. Stella's blog https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com

Inquiry into Language continued:
As a class we took up some examples of quotations from our homework. Students identified what the dialogue tags were in each sentence. It's important to understand that dialogue tags are not a part of quotations. We reviewed who is speaking and what did they say? As a class we worked on placing punctuation and quotation marks in their correct spots. Remember: punctuation marks are always outside the opening quotation marks when it comes after a dialogue tag (commas), or inside the closing quotation mark if the dialogue tag comes after the quote. (Sara said, "I wish it was Saturday." or "Please don't eat my lunch," begged Suzy.)

RECESS/ LUNCH

Inquiry Binder Reflections:
Students reflected on what activities from both Unit's of Inquiry were their best work, something they worked their hardest on, and something they need to improve on.

Inquiry into Math:
Today we learned about Double Bar Graphs. As a class we looked at a double bar graph and identified how they are similar and different to bar graphs. In double bar graphs, we have two bars attached that compare similar data. In addition to this, we have a key that tells us what each coloured bar represents. We completed an activity around interpreting data from a double bar graph. Students completed this in partners, then we took it up as a class. We then looked at how to create a double bar graph when provided with half the layout already done for them. Students were working with partners to complete this. We will be working more on what teamwork should look, feel and sound like. We will be taking this up tomorrow to insure we included all components of a double bar graph.
