Whose name is 3 letters and has two vowels???
Celebrations after our friends name was announced!

Inquiry into Language:
Students had a good chunk of time to work on their speeches today. I had a change to sit with everyone and provide them with some feedback on how to make their speech more engaging, along with what they could do to ensure their speech falls within 3-5 minutes. Some students went back to make these adjustments to their speech during the class time they had to do so. Please ensure when listening to their speech that their speech is 3-5 minutes long, and if not help them brainstorm additional ways to help it fall within this time frame. Students are encouraged to practice their speech at home on a regular basis to help them memorize it for when they have to present in front of all the grade 3's next Friday.

Unit of Inquiry:
All students got started on their paragraphs that they will present during the debate. Most of them got to begin writing their paragraph on their cue cards, which they will have with them during their debate. Students need to finish copying their paragraph onto their cue cards for homework tonight. Tomorrow they will practice presenting their groups argument to prepare for the big debate on Friday.

Inquiry into Math:
We took up some of the questions from last night and addressed any misconceptions. When subtracting money, remember to check if you need to regroup first because some questions do not require you to do so.

Today we learned all about Mass & Capacity, the difference between the two and how we can convert from one unit of measure to another (ex. kg to g, g to kg, mL to L, L to mL). We also learned how to order units of measure from most capacity to least, along with heaviest to lightest and vice versa.
To help us understand how 1 kilogram = 1000 grams, we looked at the similarity of comparing money.
1 dollar = 100 cents
The bigger the unit of measure, the smaller the value. Your equivalent kilograms value will always be smaller than the equivalent grams value.
3 kg = 3000g
72 kg = 72000 g
Tomorrow we will explore this understanding using objects and measuring cups.

Refer to the chart papers below to understand how to convert the units of measurement mentioned above.
Converting mL → L and g → kg

Converting L → mL and kg → g
In the example below, you can see my thinking in green. When I first look at a problem, I need to think:
1. Am I going from bigger unit to smaller unit of measurement or smaller unit to bigger unit?
2. What steps will I use-- will I divide OR multiply by 1000?
If I divide, I have to move my decimal 3 places to the left (my value will get smaller)
If I multiply, I have to move my decimal 3 places to the right (my value will get bigger)

You cannot convert ml to grams or L to kg since they are referring to two different things. Millilitres and Litres refer to the capacity of an object; how much something can hold. Grams and Kilograms refer to the weight of an object; how heavy an object is.

It was great to have some of our friends that have a thorough understanding of these concepts help those who asked for extra help. Here are some charts and representations our friend Ariana came up with to help her peers understand the concepts.
💖This is one of the many things I love to witness as a teacher!💖
