Reading Buddies:
We joined Ms. Gandy's class and completed an activity where we taught our reading buddies about the Author's Purpose of a text, using the information we learned yesterday. First we taught our reading buddies what the Author's Purpose means and the three possible purposes we focused on: To entertain, persuade or inform. Once their reading buddies understood these terms, we read them the article that they had to determine the Author's purpose for. Together, we helped our reading buddies identify clues from the text that helped them identify the author's purpose.

Inquiry into Language:
Students continued to write their speeches. I had an opportunity to sit with some students and time how long their speeches were, along with provide them with some feedback on how they can improve them. We will continue this tomorrow so that students can bring their speeches home to work on and add to with some assistance from our parents.

Unit of Inquiry:
We started by watching a video on the how to create a Topic sentence. After we were exposed to a topic sentence, students had to think about the information they would learn from that paragraph based on what the topic sentence was. We talked about how we will use our knowledge on how to formulate topic sentences when writing our summative debate paragraphs. Students were provided with a topic sentence starter that they could use to begin their presentation paragraph.

Inquiry into Math:
We took up one of the questions from our homework using the problem-solving model. Then we moved on to learning how to use the standard algorithm to subtract the cost of the item(s) from the amount of money we give the cashier. Again, we reviewed the importance of lining up our decimals before we begin to subtract. We also went over subtracting and having to borrow several times.

Agenda:
- Read for 25 minutes
- Spelling Lesson 18
- Cursive pgs. 40-45
- Math: Counting Change Worksheets
- French Homework
- Farmer's Market on Thursday & Friday
