Inquiry into Language
We read through the Comprehension questions for Chapters 3 & 4. Since the Chapter 4 questions require students to understand what a "metaphor" is, we watched a video that explained what Similes and Metaphors are, along with the difference between the two.
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoSBVNUO2LU
As a class, we then read through Chapter 3, having some of the students chime in with their reading skills. Then we completed a sequencing activity where students had to order the events listed based on the order that they happened during the chapter.
For homework, students have to read Chapter 4 (pgs. 21-26) and complete the comprehension questions by Friday. We may get to reading this in class tomorrow, however they can begin to complete this tonight in case we do not get to it tomorrow.

Unit of Inquiry
We learned how the industries we've learned about over the past couple days can have a negative effect on the environment and humans. We watched the videos below to teach us about overfishing and what individuals in the fishing industry need to be aware of. We watched a video on Coal Mining which displayed the lasting effects of a Coal mine and how it changed the environment. And we watched a video on what deforestation is and how cutting down forests can affect the air we breath and the habitats of animals.

In addition to this, students were introduced to their summative projects: A DEBATE!!! They were so excited! The letter will come home tomorrow along with more information regarding what needs to be done by Monday. I look forward to seeing them get into these debates.

Inquiry into Math
We began with a pop quiz on estimating time and expressing time in a variety of ways (digital clock and using words). Once this was done, we went over notebook organization. If students only use half a page in their notebooks, they need to draw a line across the page, then write the next lessons title/page number and date at the top of the new section.
Today we learned about Elapsed time: the amount of time that has passed. We learned how to solve elapsed time using two strategies:
1. A number line
2. A T-Chart
Below are two videos we watched to introduce these strategies. During the videos, I paused the to discuss why we do such steps to ensure students understood the process
Number Line: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXRC_WXoIeI&list=PLcdK5SbVPtlYHmDEH0LNKHWi4MUAPvKvV&index=3&t=0s
T-Chart: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Eucvb7qFpk&list=PLcdK5SbVPtlYHmDEH0LNKHWi4MUAPvKvV&index=1
After we watched these videos, we went over some examples together then students had the opportunity to work on their homework questions and ask any questions of uncertainty.

Agenda
- Elapsed Number line worksheet
- Elapsed time Clock worksheet
- Spelling due tomorrow
- Spelling test tomorrow
- Novel Study: Read chapter 4 & complete comprehension questions due Friday
