JK- Grade 2 Christmas Concert
Yoga
We had our last yoga session this morning. Afterwards we sat down to reflect on what we've learned from Yoga and our Well-Being unit and how they have affected us.
Inquiry into Language
Going forward, students will have to write a paragraph using 10-15 of their list words. Their paragraph must have meaning, therefore they will require some brainstorming before hand to ensure it makes sense. In addition to this, their spelling tests will focus more on the "tip" of the week to see if they understand the spelling rule and know how to apply it. We will discuss both of these further in class tomorrow.
Unit of Inquiry
Today we learned about Population Density: the number of people living in an area. We learned what sparsely and densely populated mean and factors that can contribute to a community being either sparsely or densely populated.

Inquiry into Math
Our learning goal today was to be able to create bar and double bar graphs. We began by observing a bar graph and double bar graph and identifying the similarities and differences between the two. We noticed that both of them have a title, axis labels, categories, a scale and bars. A double bar graph also includes a legend to identify what each coloured bar represents. After looking at these two graphs we discussed how we can create a bar graph using the information from a double bar graph (you have to add up the total number of boys and girls from each category to create your bar graph).

Then, using data provided, we created a double bar graph. Before we even began to graph, we put the data into a tally chart to make it easier to identify the value for each category. This made it so much easier when it came to drawing the bars for boys and girls in each category. Students had to copy this information down in their binders, then complete a bar graph for this data.
Agenda
- Math worksheets on creating bar and double bar graphs
- Spelling Lesson 14
- Read for 25 minutes
- UOI: Population density worksheet
On December 10, 2019, students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 2 will put on two performances at the St. Jude’s Dome. Our afternoon performance will begin at 1:00 pm, with doors opening at 12:30. Our evening performance will begin at 6:30 pm, with doors opening at 6:15 pm. Seating is on a first come first serve basis. Please keep in mind that outside food and drinks are not permitted in the Dome.
For our evening performance, families are welcome to take our shuttle from St. Jude’s to the Dome and back. Shuttles will begin running from 6:00-7:00 pm.
We encourage all families to come bundled up to stay warm and cozy for the entire show. The students and teachers have put a tremendous amount of work into their performances and kindly ask that all families stay and enjoy the show until the end.
We look forward to seeing you all there!

We interpreted information from the map above which provided us with information on the Population density of Ontario in 2001. We had to identify how to interpret information from this graph... we have to use the LEGEND. The purple areas are the areas which were the most densely populated, where as the beige areas were sparsely populated. We discussed why some areas were more densely populated than others to help students for when they go to respond to the discussion questions.
