Inquiry into Language
We completed our OWA letter to a new student today.

Unit of Inquiry
In the afternoon we learned more about coping strategies. We learned about healthy and unhealthy coping strategies. Students had to sort a list of healthy and unhealthy coping  strategies. They also had an opportunity to be reflective and share some of their unhealthy coping strategies. Students were provided with a list of coping strategies and they had to shade in the ones that they've tried when they've felt anxious, nervous or upset,  and they've worked. Then students had to reflect on some that they LOVE because they help them copy really well, and some that they would like to try to see if those also work. Once they identified some of these, students had to spend a couple minutes trying that strategy to see how it makes them feel and think.
Lastly, we learned about SMART goals. SMART goals have to be: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-based. We talked about what each of these criteria look like and strategies we can use when trying to accomplish a specific SMART goal. Then, some students provided us with a personal goal of theirs, and we had to reflect on how it was SMART by looking at each criteria. For homework, students need to think of a goal they would like to accomplish over the next couple months or within this school year, and explain how it can be a SMART goal. I look forward to hearing these on Monday!
Agenda
