- Yoga tomorrow: wear gym Uniform
- P.D. Day Friday
Yoga Session
Our first Yoga session will be tomorrow! Please ensure your child comes to school dressed in their gym uniforms and if they have a yoga mat, they can bring that to use. If they don't have one, Gym mats will be provided.

Mindfulness Summative Supplies
We will continue to work on our summative this week. Students are encouraged to reflect on the supplies they will need to complete their summative and purchase these over the course of the week. They will resume working on their scrapbooks on Wednesday. Some suggestions are:
- Magazines for letters
- Photos that represent a topic that will be included in their scrapbook
- Stickers & Letters for titles
- Crafty paper
Guy Fawkes Day
Students who memorized the Guy Fawkes poem and wanted to recite it in class had an opportunity to do so to earn house points.
Unit of Inquiry
The class began by continuing to work on the list of people they trust. I noticed that their statements were very vague and repetitive so I can up with some examples for them so they could what was expected of them. After this, we talked about what having a "safe" place means: it's a place you can go to where you can be your true self and let your guard down. For homework, students need to draw a picture of their safe place and explain what makes it their safest place to go. Lastly, we talked about how we all have our differences and the importance of understanding and accepting our differences. Tomorrow students will learn how to listen, understand and accept each others differences on a variety of topics.
Science Fair
Today we wrote our part of our procedure for our experiment. Tomorrow we will write out the rest of our procedure and complete the first trial of our experiment.
Inquiry into Math
We began our first lesson on number patterns today, exploring the three different types of number patterns we will be learning about.
Repeating patterns: when a number pattern repeats itself. The numbers are repeated in the pattern is called the pattern core.
Growing patterns: when the numbers in a pattern increase by a certain value. The terms in a growing pattern can either increase by addition or multiplication.
Shrinking patterns: when the numbers in a pattern decrease by a certain value. The terms in a shrinking pattern decrease by subtracting a certain value.
As a class, we learned how to solve the pattern rule in a growing and shrinking pattern. You have to determine the value that the terms increase or decrease by. The rule format should be as follows:
We learned what the word "term" means: it is a specific number in a sequence of numbers. Students should be able to identify and solve for any term in a sequence of numbers.
Agenda
- Read for 25 minutes
- Spelling Lesson 9 + Sentences
- Math pg. 12 & 13 #3bd, 6def, 8
- UOI: Safe Place Worksheet
- Study all times tables
- Wear Gym uniform & bring yoga mat for tomorrow

Shrinking patterns: when the numbers in a pattern decrease by a certain value. The terms in a shrinking pattern decrease by subtracting a certain value.
As a class, we learned how to solve the pattern rule in a growing and shrinking pattern. You have to determine the value that the terms increase or decrease by. The rule format should be as follows:
"Start at ____. Add ____ each time."
or
"Start at ____. Add ____. Increase the number you add by ___ each time."
If it is a repeating pattern, your rule states the core of the pattern. Ex. This is a repeating pattern. The core is 3, 1, 1, 6.We learned what the word "term" means: it is a specific number in a sequence of numbers. Students should be able to identify and solve for any term in a sequence of numbers.
Ex. 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18
There are 6 terms in this pattern. The first term is 3, the second term is 6, the third term is 9, etc...
Lastly, we learned how to organize a set of data into a table of values to help us determine the pattern rule. We did an example together, then students had to complete a question similar to this for their homework. By organizing data in a table, it makes it easier for us to determine what the pattern is increasing or decreasing by.
