Spelling Test/ Unit of Inquiry
Students completed Lesson 21 spelling test.
We then completed a Needs vs. Wants activity for UOI. We watched a video to distinguish the difference between the two, then talked about some community needs (ex. stop signs, traffic lights, etc.). In groups students completed an activity where they had to determine whether the listed item is a need or a want, then order those items from most important to least important.

Inquiry into Math
We took up some of the homework questions on the board. Several of students came to school today saying that they did not know how to answer a couple questions, however they had not attempted to use the problem-solving strategy. Once they went off to use this strategy: stating what you know, what you want to know and how you're going to solve this, they began to realize how to approach the problem. It's important to recognize that while we may not need to follow all of these steps when faced with easier word problems, however when we are faced with multi-step problems we should result to using this strategy as it helps us break information apart.
The last homework question related back to equations and missing values (chart above).

UOI/ Novel Study
Students completed a UOI pop quiz on land uses. This quiz involved describing how land is used for recreation, agriculture, industrial, commercial, conservation and residential reasons. It is important for students to review and talk about the information they learned on a regular basis to help them retain such information.

As a class, we then read Chapters 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 of our novel study Heidi. Fantastic reading job to everyone who volunteered to read. I love listening to the expression, tone, emphasis and reflection used throughout our reading. The students are so engaged in this book they didn't want to put the book down. I cannot wait to continue on Monday!

HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY TO OUR FRIEND!! THANK YOU FOR THE DELICIOUS CUPCAKES!! I HOPE YOU HAVE A FANTASTIC BIRTHDAY WEEKEND! 😊
