Before we started Math, we began with our daily Greetings. This is something we will be doing daily, where one student is selected to greet every other classmate with whatever way they would like to be welcomed.

Inquiry into Math
Today we learned about fractions of a set. This talks about the fraction of a set that we want to represent. Please refer to the steps on the chart to see how to solve the fraction of a set and how to draw an image to represent this portion. We completed some examples together, then went on to working on our homework.

Unit of Inquiry
This afternoon we explored the subgenre Mystery through a fun activity with Ms. Chiappetta's class. Ms. Chiappetta's hippopotamus had gone missing and the Grade 3's had to solve which teacher was the "culprit" who stole it. In groups they walked around the school reading the "suspect teachers" alibis and asking them questions. Students had to record each teachers alibi and clues they found from this which would help them justify who the culprit was. They had so much fun doing this and knew exactly who the culprit was..... Ms. Samuel. Check out some of the conversations and questions they had below

Inquiry into Language
We learned about our last two types of Figurative Language: Personification and Hyperbole. Hyperbole is when we exaggerate what we are trying to say. Personification is when we give an object or thing characteristics of a human. We came up with some examples together, then we independently worked on our homework sheets.

Fun Friday
At the end of the day we had some free time to do whatever we'd like and fill out our "What Stuck With You Today" cards.

AGENDA:
Math: Fractions of a set worksheets (3 pages)
Language: Hyperbole and Personification worksheet
Language: Detailed paragraph about what they did over the Holidays on the winter-themed sheet of paper
