Inquiry into Math
Today we reviewed some concepts from yesterdays home before moving on to adding and subtracting decimal numbers. We discussed how we skip count by hundredths to help us solve the missing numbers on a number line along with the steps we should take when comparing and ordering decimal numbers. When comparing numbers that are written to different place values (ex. 8.1 and 8.23) it helps us identify which is greater or less when we write them both to its hundredth place, therefore 8.1 becomes 8.10.
Then we moved on to reviewing how to add and subtract numbers. We went over the 2 things we need to ensure we do before we begin to subtract numbers using place value.
1. Line up our decimal points
2. Ensure all numbers are represented to the hundredth place value (This means there should always be 2 digits to the right of the decimal point)

The purple writing is how we SHOULD NOT line up our numbers. The green writing is how we should line up our decimals and numbers.

Lastly we got to play a game with a peer which revolved around comparing decimal numbers to see who can make the smallest.

Unit of inquiry/ Language
This afternoon I conferenced with each student and helped them build on their fractured-fairytales. I want to ensure all students are on the right path to be successful with their speeches. The students accepted the feedback very well and went off demonstrating an understanding of the advice I offered them.
