Inquiry into Math
Take a look at how engaged our class is during our daily math game "Count Up".
Our focus today was on ordering decimals from least to greatest and vice versa, along with placing a decimal point on a number line.
We look up some of our homework from last night. It's so important that students are carefully reading the instructions as the questions asked for them to complete two steps, however most of us only completed one. We went over the multi-components they should have completed while taking this up.
Then we practiced placing a decimal number on a number line. Steps to follow:
1. Identify what your starting point and ending point on the number line is
2. Figure out what each dash on your number line represents (what is each dash increasing by)
3. Solve where that decimal number belongs and label it on the number lineLastly we reviewed how to order decimal numbers.
Note: We need to remember to compare numbers by place value (biggest place value to smallest).
We start with our whole values, if those are the same then we look at the value of the digit in the tenths place. If these are the same then we look at our hundredth place value.
If a number is only represented to the nearest tenth (ex. 7.2), remember this is the same as 7.20 when you're comparing decimals.
