Inquiry into Language:
In relation to the movie we watched on Tuesday, Inside Out, the students began to complete a booklet which focuses on reflecting how the handle the emotions emphasized in that movie (fear, anger, disgust, sadness and joy). The students have to brainstorm what makes them feel this way, talk about a situation that made them feel this emotion and how they handled that emotion. In addition to this they have to brainstorm how they could help a friend who is experiencing this emotion.

Inquiry into Math:
Students learned all about pictographs today. We examined a pictograph and labeled each component in order to learn all of the different components of a pictograph.
The components of a pictograph consist of:
- X-axis and y-axis to create the structure of your pictograph,
- Title: which tells you what the graph is about
- Labels: to explain what the information in those columns represent
- Key: to explain what each symbol represents
- Symbol: the "picture" you use to display your data

As a class we discussed some information we could tell from the whole pictograph and from the data displayed. While doing this we even discussed how we could compare the data to express what we know. We went through an example of how to make a pictograph and figure out what key to use based on the data we are presented with. By this we mean that the value we use in our key needs to be a factor of our data (multiples) or a number that can be split in half, thirds, or quarters to represent the data. We went over some examples of how to figure out keys based on the data presented in three scenarios. We also created a pictograph together to help us recognize the steps to follow while creating one. Great participation from everyone today!
Unit of Inquiry:
Using all of their materials, students practiced for their showcase tomorrow. Some students have some final touches to make tomorrow prior to the showcase. I can't wait to hear you all present your devices tomorrow!
We had a little too much fun with the container of water....
We learned...
- You can't tilt a container of water while trying to carry it with a group of people or else...SPLASH
- You cannot clean a wet floor with a wet paper towel

Inquiry into Language Continued:
Students began exploring quotation marks and dialogue tags in sentences. We understand that dialogue tags explain who is speaking and that they can be at the beginning, end or in the middle of a sentence.

We discussed how when dialogue tags are used at the beginning of a sentence, we place a comma after the dialogue tag, then our quote. Susie said, "Please go and clean your room!"

We discussed how when dialogue tags are used at the end of a sentence, the comma goes at the end of the quote, before the closing quotation. "Please go and clean your room," yelled Susie.

We discussed how when dialogue tags are used in the middle of a sentence, we place a comma before the first closing quotation mark, along with one after the dialogue tag. "Please go and clean your room," yelled Susie, "because Uncle Pat is coming over tonight."

We completed some examples together of how to put information of what someone said into a quote using quotation marks and dialogue tags.

AGENDA:
- Math: pgs. 180, 82 and 83
- Language: Quotation marks and Dialogue Tags worksheet
- Spelling Test tomorrow
