Inquiry into Language:
Students began with a creative writing activity about their peers. Each were assigned a peer, and they had to think if an award were to be presented to this student, what would it be! Along with coming up with this award students had to justify why their selected peer should receive it (how they demonstrate this). Once we finished this we took up our Paragraph editing package to ensure we caught all of the errors in these paragraphs.
Unit of Inquiry:
We reviewed what a Force is (something that pushes or pulls) and discussed whether different activities demonstrated a push or a pull. As a class we looked at 4 images in our UOI duo tangs and identified some of the activities in these photos that represented "pushing" or "pulling" forces. We recorded 3 examples for each category in our books, then completed the rest of this independently. The students asked some great questions about whether certain activities would be push/pull. Whatever did not get finished is for homework.

Inquiry into math:
This was a work period for our review. We got together with Miss. Chiappetta's class to answer some of the communication questions. To ensure we all understand what to do in such instances we copied the answers and its steps from the whiteboard onto our review. We will use this question to help us solve later problems that address addition and subtraction equations.
To solve a subtraction equation missing the first digit:
Step 1: Solve the difference of the two terms you have together
Step 2: Add your difference from step 1 to the second digit to help you solve the 2nd digit on that side of the equal side.
To solve a subtraction equation missing the second digit:
Step 1: Solve the difference of the two terms you have together
Step 2: Subtract your difference from the 1st term on the missing side to solve the 2nd digit.
As you can see, the first steps are the same, however the second step changes based on it's operation (adding or subtracting the two numbers).
Reviews are due tomorrow so we I can conference with each student on areas they may need to practice over the weekend.
Inquiry into Language continued:
We began to edit a poorly written letter in partners. First we had to edit it for spelling, grammar, punctuation and capitalization mistakes. Then we had to add details to the letter to improve it. In addition to this we have to ensure that all 5 of our letter components have been included. We will continue to work on this tomorrow. We communicated our ideas and the mistakes we noticed very well with our partners.
