Inquiry into Language:
We individually brainstormed examples of "good" and "bad" peer feedback to help us get a better understanding of how we can affectively help our peers do better on their work next time. Once we completed this marker walk with chart paper, we worked on editing a set of paragraphs. This activity addressed grammar errors, capitalization, punctuation, omitted words, indentation, etc. We worked very hard on this activity and will take it up tomorrow as a class to ensure we caught all of the mistakes. This will help us when it comes to editing both our own work, and the work of our peers.
RECESS/LUNCH
Inquiry into Math:
Todays focus was all around problem solving strategies. I came up with three addition equations using shapes, each equalling a different sum. The students had to solve what each shape represented in order for it to equal the sum that was provided. Each shape has a different value, and that value has to represent that shape in each of the 3 equations. The challenging part with this is we would sometimes solve the value of the shapes in the first equation, then think these were the values of the shapes without ensuring it worked for the other two equations. In order to solve this, you need to prove that those values work in all three addition equations. We took these examples up together, and some of the students did a fantastic job at demonstrating how they thought they were correct at first, then realized those values didn't work for the last equation so they had to start all over again. These are fun little brain teasers to see how we can play with numbers.
Language continued:
We discussed what silent reading should look and sound like in our classroom. We continued to read our DRA levelled books. For those of us who finished we recorded them into our new reading log, and will continue to do this when we finish reading books at our DRA level. Once we reach 5 books, students are to write a reading response (at school). As mentioned before, students are still encouraged to read for 25 minutes at home as sometimes we will not get to have this silent reading period.
RECESS/ LUNCH
Unit of Inquiry:
We began our second Unit of Inquiry today: Forces!!!! Students participated in a silent marker walk around the classroom. There were chart papers with different forces on them. We silently rotated around the class writing down what we know/understand about the forces that were around the classroom. This is similar to our KWL, where students explain what they already know about these forces. Tomorrow we will be exploring the forces that are present in a picture. We watched a video about Pushing and Pulling - Force, Work, and Energy.
In addition to this we are practicing our class procedure for Lockdowns to ensure we are well aware of what to do in these instances.

This is an example of how the first attempt didn't
work,so he tried another one and that one worked.
Our math test is changed to Monday. The review was sent home today. Students are to go over the review with their parents/guardians and put a star beside the questions they think they will have trouble with/don't understand what to do. Tomorrow we will begin completing our review and work on some of the questions together.Language continued:
