Day 3!

Good morning Grade 3s!
Our class call will be from 11:00 - 12:00 today and we will be having our math lesson together so save your math sheets to complete at this time! Please ensure you are ready for our lesson by having a print out of the math sheets/ Seesaw open on another tab or some paper with them to work through the problems together (and a pencil of course).

Below is a picture of the tasks to complete for today. Thank you for all the hard work you have been putting in to ensure you are completing the tasks that were assigned for the day.

Inquiry into Language
You will continue to explore suffixes today. There are two worksheets for you to complete on Seesaw. Based on yesterday's learning experiences, you should be able to edit both of these documents online to complete right on Seesaw.
It is very important that you think of the meaning of words once you've added a suffix to a root word since it's meaning changes. (ex. jump → jumper: you could not use both of these words in the same sentence)

Unit of Inquiry
Yesterday, you should have read through the three pages on how water, plants and animals help soil and highlighted all of the important information. Using this information that you highlighted, complete the first UOI worksheet on Seesaw which required you to write a summary of how water, plants and animals help soil, in your own words. Once you finish this summary it would be nice if you drew a picture showing how water, plants and animals help soil. I'm curious to see how you draw pictures using the paint and pencil tools on Seesaw. If you are not using Seesaw and need to reread the articles from yesterday again, go to yesterdays blog to find the images.
Once you finish this activity you are going to read a text on The Importance of Soil. As instructed on Seesaw, you have to summarize each paragraph on the reflection worksheet where there are lines for you to write on. You should be able to submit this right on Seesaw after you've completed it.😊

Math
Our online video call at 11 will revolve around our math lesson, so please do not complete the math sheets before our lesson. We will work through them together.

Today focuses on exploring predictions in probability. This means we will be looking at how we can create a reasonable prediction around the certain events that may be possible based on the results after so many trials. We will also be looking at how we can predict the number of times a favourable outcome occurs when given a specific number of trials and probability of each event.

French
Wednesday, March 25th, 2020

Learning goal: Read and understand new vocabulary words and conjugate verbs correctly to match the subject.
Success criteria: I can read and understand new words and conjugate verbs correctly to match the subject.

-The students are provided with a sheet (print if possible and keep in the folder with the rest of your work) that contains more vocabulary related to the unit.

- The students read and try to define the words or find their equivalent in English.

- The students will complete a worksheet following the instructions on it (to be printed and completed and an answer key is provided but only to be shown to them after they have completed the worksheet on their own or at least tried their best).
Parents, please print out the French worksheets from this mornings email.

Gym
PE with Ms. V!

Hello everyone!

Today Ms. V has something very special for you to do for PE! I have created my very own workout video on YouTube for all of you to follow along with. Make sure you have your water bottle, maybe a yoga mat or blanket to kneel on for certain exercises. You can repeat this workout as many times as you'd like, but make sure you drink lots of water to replenish your body!

We will be working on our cardio, leg muscles, arm muscles and our core (tummy) muscles.
Are you ready!?!?

Music
I was so happy to hear so many wonderful compositions about the importance of "staying home!" I heard  lovely singing, piano playing and lovely lyrics written.  Today in music class please listen to the example of a concerto.  A concerto is a piece of music where one or more instruments plays in front of an orchestra.  You will find this example on:
  1. Please click on the green arrow and listen to examples of a concerto including Bach's concerto.
  2. Please draw a picture or write a story that explains how the music makes you feel, or what it makes you think of.  Examples could include what instruments does the music make you think of (flute?  Violin?).
  3. When you are finished you play  musical games on the game section such as "Play note names" and
    compose your own music.
  4.  Next you may write rhythms which can include spring words to match the rhythm.  A fun way you can do this would be outside on your sidewalk with chalk!  Be creative and have fun!  Or inside on paper with markers or crayons.  For example "I love spring flowers" ta, ti ti , ta, ta" - quarter note, eighth note eighth note, quarter note, quarter note.
  5.  I will be recording a video for next class that you can sing along with at home.  If you have any requests for songs that you love that we sing in class please email them to me at amcmillan@stjudesacademy.com.  I will try to include the songs that you love to sing!
