Inquiry into Language
We began our day with students practicing for their in class speech competition tomorrow. Keep practicing these at home tonight to best prepare for tomorrows in-class competition.
In the afternoon we read chapters 12, 13 and 14 of our novel study together. The students love this book so much they didn't want to stop reading, however we stopped at chapter 14 so they could work on their comprehension questions.

Inquiry into Math
We learned about fraction benchmarks and how we can compare fractions to these benchmarks. This will help us when it comes to comparing and ordering fractions.
The three fraction benchmarks we will be working with are 0, 1/2 and 1.
Students had to compare fractions to see if they were closer to 0 (barely anything), 1/2 of a whole, or 1 whole. They broke out into partners and used fraction strips to help them identify if the fractions they were provided with were closer to 0, 1/2 or 1. They got to use whiteboard markers to shade in the fractions they were working with to make it easier for them.

Unit of Inquiry
At the end of the day students participated in a hands-on activity exploring how they can manipulate the shape of clay by using forces, along with how the force they apply can change the speed of a toy car.
