Unit of Inquiry
At the end of the day I read the story "The Little House", which is a story about how a little house's environment changed from a rural community to a city and how this affected the little house's feelings. It was such a beautiful read and the students had some great discussions regarding what happened in the book.
We began our fourth Unit of Inquiry today which is all about FORCES! First we discussed what we think of when we hear the word "force" along with what this word means. Then students shared some examples of how they use forces in their everyday lives. As a class, we discussed what force and movement mean, along with the difference between a push and pull force.
As a class, we looked at 4 pictures, each on showing forces during the different seasons. We talked about a couple different "pushing" and "pulling" forces from the first two seasons, then students went off to work to work on this activity with a small group or individually.

Inquiry into Language
Students had an opportunity to practice their speeches with a partner today. I also got to see a few more. Some of us still have to add a little bit to ensure it meets the 3-5 minute time limit. Please continue to practice this at home along with add gestures to the speech.

Inquiry into Math
We started a new math unit today. We will be learning about fractions and decimals during this unit! Today we learned about Fractions of a Whole. We learned the terms numerator, denominator, parts, whole.
We looked at a fraction and identified how the top number, which is the numerator, represented the parts that were shaded in. The bottom number, which is the denominator, represented the total number of parts. The denominator is the total number of parts in a whole. After looking at how we can identify a fraction that represents a picture, we discussed how we can read this fraction in several ways. On a side note, most of the students finished their homework in class so they got to play the fraction game in their workbook!

Agenda

- Spelling Lesson 19 + Sentences with 7+ Words
