Happy Friday!
We began our day with a dance party! At the end of the day, two students names we selected to pick from our prize box since we had such a fantastic week!
Unit of Inquiry
With several students being absent today, we only got through 1 debate. They did a fantastic job at presenting their arguments and thinking or rebuttals. We will continue with the rest of the debates on Monday.
Inquiry into Language
After our debate, students began to read the novel they selected at their reading level! I could not have been happier to see how engaged everyone was in their novels. After students finished reading a chapter or 2 from their novel, they had to complete a reading response that consisted of a retell, relate and reflect on the text they read. There is a chart in their black duotangs outlining how to incorporate each of these components into their response.
Inquiry into Math
We played some math games today to practice the concepts we learned. Students were divided into groups and moved around to different stations to engage in time, money and capacity conversion activities. I hope these activities helped enhance their understanding of the concepts we have learned this unit. Their feedback was that:
"The games were so fun"
"The helped me understand some things *concepts* that were challenging for me"
" I never knew that the hour hand has to be in between the hours when 30 minutes have passed, but now I do"
Agenda
- Study for math test-- practice challenging questions
- Math test Tuesday
- Novel Study: Answer Chapters 5,6,7,8,9 Questions due Monday
- Reading Response due Mon. (Retell, Relate, Reflect)
- Practice Speech (3-5 minutes long)

At the end of the day we read chapters 5-9, which is only 11 pages, and discussed some of the vocabulary and phrasing to enhance our vocabulary. Students are to complete the comprehension questions for these chapters over the weekend.
