- Magazines for letters
- Photos that represent a topic that will be included in their scrapbook
- Stickers & Letters for titles
- Crafty paper

Unit of Inquiry
Most of our day was filled with UOI, UOI and more UOI. In the morning we learned about what it means to be assertive: being able to express your thoughts, feelings and opinions. Being assertive prevents us from being disrespected, taken advantage of and even from being bullied. This is because we are able to stand up for ourselves and say "no" when we need to. One way to be assertive is by using "I-Statements."
Students were put into groups of 2 or 3 and were presented with situations that they had to create an "I-Statement" for, then they presented their statements to the class. Each situation was addressed by at least 2 groups this way we could hear the different approaches someone could take. The situations they addressed were situations we see happen throughout our days. They all came up with some really good "I-statements" for each situation.
Your friend takes your hockey card and won't give it back.
- You are accused of doing something that you didn't do.
- Your friends house just won the championship and they are celebrating their victory over your team.
- Your parents packed you a lunch that you don't enjoy.
- Your parents yell at you.
- Your teacher keeps you in for recess to finish unfinished work you had for homework.
- Your mom doesn't show up for your championship game.
- Your friend continues to copy your work.
It's important to remember that the alternate behaviour that is suggested is another thing that the person can do instead of handling the situation the way they did. The alternate behaviour is NOT you telling the person to not do the behaviour they did.
In the afternoon, I presented students with a sample scrapbook of what the structure of their scrapbook should look like by creating one about myself. Students were given a checklist of what has to be included in their scrapbook and I explained how they will use this to ensure they include all components in their scrapbook. They were so excited to dive right in to creating their scrapbooks. I can't wait to see the progress they make not only on their scrapbooks, but also on gaining a better understanding of themselves and each other.
