Unit of Inquiry
Today we discussed a lot about healthy and unhealthy relationships, along with how we can make a change in our actions and the world. We started off with a continuation from yesterday talking about how we can change negative self-talk into positive self-talk. This led us in to healthy vs. unhealthy relationships. Students brainstormed ideas that would make a relationship unhealthy, then presented their ideas to the class. In order for a relationship to be healthy, there must be: mutual communication, respect, support, compromise and space. Through these discussions, we learned the meaning of "mutual" and what "seeing eye-to-eye" means. Some signs of an unhealthy relationship are when there are things such as physical abuse, emotional abuse, failure to compromise, lack of communication and a lack of respect.
In the afternoon, we talked about what being mentally healthy means, to develop our knowledge around mental health. We discussed how people who are mentally healthy may talk, think, act and feel. The students even had an opportunity to show a little demonstration of someone who may be mentally healthy or someone who may not have the best mental health. They are to use these examples to help them reflect on this worksheet. Lastly, we talked about what it means to empower ourselves, along with how we can make a change in the world.

Inside Out Movie
In the afternoon, Ms. Chiappetta's class joined us to watch the movie Inside Out to complement our Unit of Inquiry. In this movie, the students are exposed to the emotions of "happiness, anger, sadness, disgust and fear" and how one's emotions can interact and control their behaviours.
