International Day
Our presentation boards have been assembled and are ready to practice! To demonstrate how to organize information in a visually appealing and easy-to-follow way, I laid out all of the paragraphs, pictures and headings on the tri-fold boards. Before gluing it down, we gathered around the board to discuss if there was anything to change, what made it easy to follow and understand, how pictures and words were arranged, and what steps to follow when assembling info onto a board. While students assemble their poster boards for their summatives, they will be encouraged to keep all of these discussion points in mind.
Unit of Inquiry
We had all morning to work on our summative projects. Some of us have finished all of our paragraphs, and have started to assemble our pictures and paragraphs onto our board. I can't wait to see the final products! If you have not brought in your supplies to make your diorama or display board, please ensure to do so tomorrow.
Inquiry into Math
We finally got to use our handy-dandy whiteboards! Today we learned how to multiple any number larger than 2 digits by a 1 digit number (ex. 82 x 7). We completed a couple examples together to discuss the steps when multiplying a number with 2 digits or more by a single digit number.
82 x 7
1. First write in vertically so your numbers line up
2. Multiply 7 by 2
3. Since it equals 14, the 4 goes below the equal sign, and the 1 is regrouped above the 8
4. Multiply 8 x 7, then add the amount you regrouped (which is 1 this time)
5. This equals 56 + 1 , which is 57, so you write this below the equal line
6. Your answer is 574
Once we completed the examples together, I wrote a question on the board and students had to write it on their whiteboard and solve it, then we took it up as a class. They absolutely loved this! Apparently my questions were way to easy for them, so I decided to give them a 4-digit x 1-digit question. I loved seeing how they applied the steps from the easier questions to the more challenging ones, along with how students went to double check their work since some of their peers got different answers. At the end, we went over what they have to do for homework, completed some questions together, then worked on our homework sheets independently. Now students are ready to complete all components of their review!
