International Day

 Our class will be representing GREECE! Each student has been partnered up, and they have been assigned a topic to research. The topic they are assigned is highlighted on the letter that went home. Research was due today, however if your child did not bring their research to school by today, please have them bring all their research findings to school by TUESDAY as we will be putting our board together then. 

House Game

We began this morning with a house game! Kappa and Theta brought in a lot of house points. Poor Zeta! Hopefully we do better next time! 😭😭

Inquiry into Language

Students completed their Lesson 5 spelling test today. Next week students will begin writing sentences for their list words. More about this will be sent out over the weekend/next week.

Inquiry into Math

We completed a 4x table quick quiz today We are so excited to do these every day! 

After we finished the quiz, we had a lesson about multiplying a number by 10, 100 or 1000, or a multiple of these numbers (20, 200, 3000, etc.) We did some examples together, then students went off to complete their workbook homework. 

We looked at what exactly is happening when we multiply a number by a factor of 10, 100 or 1000 by using long multiplication. This exposure to long multiplication will help students gain a conceptual understanding of long multiplication when we begin to multiply 2 by 1 numbers (ex. 34 x 7).

We also worked on a worksheet where students had to use information from a picture and question to solve what the factors and product in that multiplication fact were. We identified some of the multiplication facts for the first few questions, then students had to solve these and complete the rest.

Ex. How many legs would eight dogs have? 8 x 4 = 32 

I know it's 8 because I will have eight dogs, and I know my other factor is 4 because that's how many legs one dog has. Then I have to solve what the product would be.

Gym was cancelled today so the students had some extra time to work on Math. In addition to this, they had the opportunity to share what they are thankful for and what they are looking forward to this weekend.
