Spelling Bee
This morning we had our in-class spelling competitions. The top 6 from grade 3 move forward to compete on Monday from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Congratulations to Aydan who advanced to compete on Monday!!
The top 6 grade 4s will compete next Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
- Congratulations to Justin and Rayen!! Good luck on Tuesday!!
Unit of Inquiry
We reviewed what we have learned throughout our Soil Unit so far, then went in to learning about the lifecycle of plants. A plants lifecycle goes through the stages of seed, sprout, bud the flower. Students completed a drawing for each stage in a plants lifecycle.
RECESS/ LUNCH
Reading Buddies
We had reading buddies with Mr. Foster's Grade 1 class.
Inquiry into Math
We looked at polygons and 3D shapes today. We discussed the difference between regular, irregular and non-polygons and sorted some shapes into their according categories based on the characteristics of the polygons.
Polygons: closed shapes that are made of straight lines
Regular polygons: a closed shapes with all congruent sides
Irregular polygons: a closed shape that does not have all sides congruent
Non-polygon: A shape that is not closed or does not consist of only straight lines
We discussed the difference between pyramids and prisms and how to identify 3D shapes based on specific criteria. We looked at the relationship between 2D and 3D shapes. Students worked on completing an activity where they had to identify all of the polygons used to create specific 3D shapes along with identifying hexagons, pentagons and octagons in a set of figures.
RECESS/ LUNCH
Unit of Inquiry/ Language
Students read through an article about the parts of a flower and tried to use the information from the article to label the drawing of their flower. We then watched a video that discussed the parts of a flower and their functions. Students used the information from this video to label their diagram and make any corrections based on the article they read. Once we finished our UOI worksheet, students silently read for about 25 minutes.
AGENDA:
- Read for 25 minutes
- 3D Shapes worksheet
- Spelling due tomorrow
