Day 2- Music Monday

Announcements

Inquiry into Language
Students began to work on Lesson 20 in their workbooks. As a class we used Google Earth to take a look for the landforms and city of Niagara Falls. This helped prepare them for their UOI activity.

Unit of Inquiry
Students were assigned partners to complete this UOI task. They were provided with two cities/towns and they had to explore them in 3D on Google Earth. The cities they were provided were in the form of an "Instasnap". Take look below. Students reflected on the type of community it is, what the landforms are like and what types of jobs people may have there. 
Students are to complete the worksheet that went along with the cities they explored. Students will then complete an instasnap of the city they live in. Remember to include a picture, caption and hashtags that represent your picture and community.


RECESS/ LUNCH

Inquiry into Math
Today was a review of elapsed time. Students focused more on word problems. We are working on identifying the information provided to us in the word problem, what the question is asking us to do, then solving it. We did an example together today to demonstrate how there are a variety of ways to solve such problems.
 

When solving a time such as 1 hour and 75 minutes have passed, students are encouraged to covert that 75 minutes into hours and minutes. To do so:
1. Subtract 60 from 75 -- this 60 turns into an hour (therefore 1 hour turns into 2 hours)
2. Your difference (which is 15 here) is how many minute have no passed
So your answer is: 2 hours and 15 minutes have passed.

Art
Today we learned about complimentary colours and completed a Valentine's Art activity. Sorry, the students insisted I not post any pictures of this as they will be giving these to you for Valentine's Day.
