March Break camp!
Book Fair in 2 weeks!!
Inquiry into Language/ UOI continued
This morning we took a look at the writing process: Prewriting, Drafting, Revising, Editing, Evaluating and Publishing. We went through what each of these consist of before we began to create our first Fractured Fairytale draft. Students used their story mountains to help them bring their Fractured Fairytale to life.
We discussed how including dialogue, expression and descriptive language (adjectives, figurative language) helps bring our story to life and came up with some examples of how they really made a difference in the telling of a story. One of the things I emphasized is that there is a difference between creating a story, and summarizing a story. Our goal this term is to create our own fractured fairytale. With this being said, when writing we need to ensure we are including dialogue and descriptive language to create that suspense and engagement a story is supposed to spark.
I love what I have seen so far and look forward to seeing how the students develop their stories over the weekend. I ask that if students are excited to share their writing with you, that you provide them with helpful feedback that will help them grow as writers. In regards to including this in their stories, I would like for them to use another colour to demonstrate the ideas/input they received from others. These are due Monday so that we can practice our PEER-EDITING YAAAAY!!!
