Music: Today we met our new Music teacher Ms. McMillan!
Inquiry into Language:
This morning we learned how to use descriptive language to describe how someone is feeling rather than just using feeling words. We visualized how someone feeling the emotion "anger" may look and sound by picturing how their face and body would look, along with the sound of their voice.
We also watched a video on "Show, Don't Tell": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4RthqSOcR0

Inquiry into Math:
We reviewed what the numerator and denominator of a fraction are along with what they represent. Then we went into learning about Fraction Benchmarks of 0, 1/2 (half), and 1 (whole). We use fraction benchmarks to help us compare fractions so it's important that we understand how to compare them to these fraction benchmarks.
Note: When comparing a fraction to these benchmarks, think of 0 as nothing being shaded in, and 1 as the whole shape being shaded in. If it's closer to the midpoint of a line, that means it's closer to 1/2.

Unit of Inquiry:
We reviewed the differences between Fiction and Non-fiction books by sorting through the characteristic in a Venn Diagram. After this we went into watching a brief video on Settings of a story and discussed how the setting revolves around the "when" and "where" a story takes place. Settings provide us with context around the events that occur in the rest of the story. Individually we examined pictures and had to use our 5 senses to help us develop a setting for that picture. Once we completed this organizer and had it reviewed, we began to write our setting paragraph. Students are encouraged to use the sense adjectives and transitions words provided to help them when writing their paragraph.
AGENDA:
Math: Fraction Benchmarks worksheet
UOI: Setting Paragraph using your senses
Language: Show Don't Tell
