Gym and French class were cancelled today

Inquiry into Language:
We began by silently reading our reading level books for about 20 minutes. We then took up our P.O.V worksheet and Onomatopoeia worksheet. Today we learned about Alliteration: sentences that contain words that produce the same letter sound at the beginning of most words in that sentence. We came up with some examples together, then worked independently on some worksheets.

Unit of Inquiry:
We continued to glue our genre features into our flip books then examined the features for each type of book. We will begin exploring a variety of books to solve which genre the book falls under.

RECESS/ LUNCH

Reading Buddies:
We had reading buddies with Mr. Foster's Grade 1 class today!

Inquiry into Math:
We reviewed what a stem-and-leaf plot is by looking at an example with decimals. It is very important that we understand how to use the key on our graphs to help us interpret the data values in that situation. We focused on interpreting how many data points we have based on our stem-and-leaf plot, along with our minimum, maximum and mode for our set of data. Based on our stem-and-leaf plot, we wrote out all of our data points, then checked to ensure the amount of numbers we wrote was the same as the amount of leaves we have.

Today we learned how to interpret data from a circle graph. First we did a littler refresher on fractions by looking at a circle as a whole and as parts of a whole. Using a circle, we folded it in half and discussed what this fraction would represent. We continued to do this by folding our circle into quarters, eighths and sixteenths. I drew examples on the board to show what it would look like if only 1 or 2 of these parts were filled in within a circle. This helped use interpret data from a circle graph by being able to explain what fraction of the circle represented a certain category. In addition to this, we discussed how to organize the data within a circle graph from greatest preference to least preference and vice versa.

For homework we are focusing on interpreting data from circle graphs, stem-and-leaf plots and double bar graphs.
