Inquiry into Language:
We had reading buddies with Ms. Gandy's class today! We reviewed our books prior to going to reading buddies to think of potential phrases and words our reading buddies may not understand. While working on our fluency and comprehension skills, we are also helping our reading buddies work on their comprehension skills.

Inquiry into Math:
Today we reviewed how to solve the range within our data. We also learned what the mode and median is within a set of data and how to solve this.

Mode: the number that occurs most frequently in a set of data
Median: the middle number in our set of data. When solving the median it's important to arrange our data points in numerical order then find our middle data point. If there are two numbers in the middle then we must find the sum of these two numbers, then divide our sum by 2 to find out what our median will be.

When solving the median it's important to rearrange your data in numerical order from least to greatest or greatest to least. One misconception we had was finding the middle number based on the order the data is presented to us (scattered). After having to go back to fix this we understand the importance of rearranging our data points.

Unit of Inquiry:
Today we began our third UOI on Storytelling. In this unit we will be exploring the elements of stories, different genres, and the story writing process. Today we began by brainstorming what we think of when we hear or see the word"writing". Great brainstorming everyone! We then began to take a look at the 5 main genres: poetry, fiction, drama, non-fiction and folktales.

Inquiry into Language continued:
This months learner profile is Communicators. We watch a communication video with Ms. Chiappetta's class to show us a variety of ways we can communicate our thoughts, feelings and emotions. After discussing the important factors in communication, we broke out in groups to create 2 skits: one that demonstrated good communication and one that demonstrated poor communication. These were generic scenarios outside of school. Next we will be working on school scenarios to help us better communicate when we get caught up in a conflict or disagreement with each other.

AGENDA:
- Read for 25 minutes
- Spelling Lesson 13 + Sentences
- Math: Median, Mode and Range Worksheet
