Inquiry into Language:
Students began to work on Lesson 11 in their spellers. In groups we went over the concepts for this week and read through the story together. Students worked on this for about 15-20 minutes then some of us shared about our weekend. We are working on our listening skills by attending to the speaking and asking them questions about what they share. Lastly, we had our first Compliment Circle and read discussed an act of Kindness from our How To Be Kind book. Over the next little while we will be learning how to give and accept compliments from others. This ties into our focus on being kind through our actions and words. The students have some understanding of what a sincere compliment is. We are working on addressing who we are talking to by name and making eye contact when we speak to them while doing this.
RECESS/ LUNCH
Inquiry into Math:
We began our Data Management unit today. Students began by reading and interpreting information from a tally chart in partners. They worked on reviewing the key concepts from this unit by sharing what they could remember of these. Then they working on interpreting information from a table on best selling books. We went through what each column in a table represented before they began to answer questions. Part of this activity required students to come up with 3 questions that could be answered from this table. I look forward to discussing these in class on Wednesday.
For homework students have 2 worksheets that focus on explore and interpret data in tables.
Language Continued:
Students reviewed what context clues are and how they help us understanding meaning. They continued to work on a set of worksheets that required them to identify the meaning of an underlined word. As a class we read through an article. Then using highlighters, students went back to highlight any words they didn't know the meaning of in that article. We will discuss these tomorrow before our quiz. Students are required to complete all context clues worksheets in their duo tangs.

might set the world in the right direction."
