Unit of Inquiry:
We continued to work on our summative tasks. Today we all began our rough copies and worked extremely hard to make progress with these. As mentioned before these are only to be worked on in class. If students would like they can bring in pictures to use on their display boards/diagrams.

RECESS/LUNCH

Inquiry into Math:
We reviewed what it means to find a pattern rule and Number pattern. It's verify important that we understand the difference between a number pattern and a number rule.
Number patterns are the actual numbers that exist within a pattern (ex. 2, 5, 8, 11, 14)
Number rules are the rules that we use to continue the patterns-- what this number pattern increases or decreases by (ex. Start at 2. Count on by 3.)

We began exploring the three different types of patterns and were exposed to different scenarios with these. The three patterns we reviewed are growing patterns, shrinking patterns and repeating patters. We did a fantastic job at recalling what we know about these patterns and the characteristics that make a pattern one of these.
- Growing patterns GROW--- increase
- Shrinking patterns SHRINK--- decrease
- Repeating patterns REPEAT the CORE -- the part that repeats over and over again
For repeating patters we highlighted scenarios where our core begins and ends with the same digit, as this is typically where students get confused (ex. 123112311231, often students will identify the core as 123 since 1 starts again, or they may forget to include this last digit when they continue on the pattern). We did some great examples together

Lastly we looked at how we organize our numbers in a table to help us determine what the rule is. When solving this we need to make sure that our arrow is between the two values and not inline with the values as this would not show the difference between the two. (refer to chart below)

Unit of Inquiry continued:
We continued to work on our rough drafts after math class. Keep up the good work everyone!

RECESS/LUNCH

Inquiry into Language:
We began lesson 5 of our spelling book. A new component of our spelling homework is to create 5 sentences using 5 of the most challenging spelling words. The package for spelling sentences is in our Language Duotang (navy blue). Students are to complete this along with their regular spelling work. This is to get them in the habit of using capital letters and punctuation in their writing. Spelling test will be next MONDAY!
In addition to this we addressed our new in class Silent reading program. Students received their reading levels today and will begin exploring books at their level or within 1 level up/down of their reading level. Once students read 5 books (in class) and record this in their new reading log, they are required to complete a reading response. Such responses will require them to retell, relate and reflect on what they have read about. Silent reading will be part of our regular language component to expose students to a variety of texts and help them build their reading stamina. On top of this, students are still encouraged to read at home to their guardians, siblings, grandparents, whether it be Razkids or physical books.

Agenda:
- Spelling and Spelling Sentences due Thursday
- Spellin Test Monday
- Math Worksheets Lesson 2 due tomorrow
- Read for 25 minutes
** Bring spelling, Math and UOI tests back signed
