Inquiry into Language:
We took up our similes homework together. To help us identify what two nouns were being compared, we underlined the simile part of the sentence. This helped us recognize that the first noun being compared was part of the sentence that wasn't underlined, and it was being compared to a noun in the underlined part (the simile). This helped us identify the comparison that was being made. We then went on to identifying the meaning behind metaphors. It's important for us to recognize when we use metaphors and similes in real life. I challenged the students to pay close attention to when their families, friends, teachers, etc. speak to them to try and identify when they use similes and metaphors through their communication. I hope they come to school with some examples that were used so that they see it is a part of our regular communication.

Unit of Inquiry:
We explored books using our knowledge of non-fiction text features to help us locate specific information in the book. Questions were provided, and students had to use their table of contents, glossary, index, captions and labels to help them locate the information they needed to answer those questions. We learned when asked to "Define" something, this means to find it's definition/meaning.

Inquiry into Language:
Today we learned about Similes and Metaphors. Both similes and metaphors make comparisons, however the difference is between how they make comparisons. Similes use the words "like" and "as", whereas metaphors just says the comparison as is. We discussed these and went over some examples while explaining how we knew whether that sentence was a simile or a metaphor.

Inquiry into Math:
Today we completed a fun math activity that revolved around multiplication facts up to a product of 60 and graphing these equations. There were 47 equation cards that students had to solve the product for, then write this equation above the product bar on their sheets of paper. As students moved from one card to another, their paper started to turn into a bar graph. There was some great cooperation and teamwork happening when other classmates couldn't find their last couple cards.

Inquiry into Math:
Due to the JK- Grade 2 Christmas Concert occurring tomorrow, our math test has been moved to Wednesday. Today we took up our reviews and went back to fix any mistakes to ensure we know what to do for next time.

Unit of Inquiry:
Today's focus was on the purpose of the features used in non-fiction informative texts. We read through a list of features we come across that help us locate the specific information we are looking for. Then, students got into groups of 3 or 4 to explore non-fiction books and identify where they see those specific features being used. In addition to this, they had to explain how those features help them as a reader. There was some great group work occurring in most of the groups!

RECESS/ LUNCH

Music Monday/ Kindness activity:
After lunch we created our own buckets for class bucket filling. Students got to decorate the front of their bucket with positive and creative ideas. As the year passes, we will fill each others buckets with positive reminders of acts that positively influenced us, along with things we have done that positively impacted others. I look forward to seeing a lot of Bucket Filling happening amongst the Grade 3s! Once finished creating our Buckets we had a mini dance party.

Inquiry into Language:
Today we discussed what an adjective is and came up with some examples to describe the noun "student". Using this noun and the adjectives we came up with, each one of us came up with a sentence where the adjective described this noun. We completed a worksheet on identifying the adjective and noun it describes in a sentence. If not completed in class, this was for homework. In addition to this we had a creative writing adjective activity where each of us need to think of an adjective to present to our classmates. When doing this you cannot say the adjective you selected, you have to only use clues that will help the rest of us guess what your adjective is. An example was provided to help us understand what to do.

We took up our homework on circle graphs, then began to work on our math review. Our math test is on Tuesday. We will take up our review together on Monday.

Unit of Inquiry:
