Unit of Inquiry
This morning I read the story "The Real Story of The Three Little Pigs" written by "the wolf". This story allowed us to see how we can change the point of view of a story to turn it into a fractured fairytale. After reading it, we talked about the similarities and differences between this version and the traditional version. Then I read the story "The Three Little Aliens and The Big Bad Robot". In this fractured fairytale, the characters changed, which resulted in the way the problem and resolution unfold to be different. We went through these examples to help us write our own fractured fairytale next week.

Inquiry into Language:
We will be beginning our DRA's very shortly. Prior to completing these, students are to complete a reading survey. This is what the students worked on this morning while I took some time to review math concepts with some of the students.

RECESS/ LUNCH

Reading Buddies
We read with Ms. Gandy's Grade 1 class today.

Inquiry into Math
In math today we learned about comparing and ordering fractions. We completed some examples together, then went off to completing our worksheets on our own. It's important that we can explain how we know which fraction is greater than the others by comparing their numerators or denominators. If we finished all of our homework, we collaborated with our peers by checking to see if we got the same answers. If we disagreed, we went back and resolved it to discover what the correct answer is. Remember to think of our fraction benchmarks 0, 1/2 and 1 to help us determine which fraction is greater, especially the 1/2 benchmark.

RECESS/ LUNCH

Inquiry into Language continued
Students silently read for 20 minutes today in class. Once reading time was over they completed their first reading response of the year based on the chapter book they have been reading. This is something we will do on the regular to help build our reading comprehension skills, along with our writing. One of the things we are working on is elaborating on our ideas. For example, if you talk about something you "wonder about" based on what you read, tell me why you wonder this.

AGENDA:
- Math: Ordering Fractions (5 pgs.)
- Spelling Lesson 16 + Sentences
- Read for 25 minutes
- Reading Response
- Math Fraction Test Friday
