Inquiry into Math:
This morning we continued to work with our partner on the introduction activity to our new math unit. I'm happy to see that we remember how to determine the numerator and denominator of our fractions, and what these numbers represent. I'm excited to get started on our Fraction and Decimal Unit!
French: Take a look at Mme. Stella's blog https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com

Inquiry into Language:
After french completed our Lesson 14 spelling test. Then we took up our metaphor homework. We are working on seeing beyond the literal meaning of words used in a metaphor to understand the true meaning of a phrase.
RECESS/ LUNCH

Unit of Inquiry:
Today we focused on Fiction books-- both fantasy and realistic fiction books. We reviewed the features of each of these subgenres to help us later identify whether the story read was fantasy fiction or realistic fiction. We listened to two read alouds: a fantasy and realistic fiction one. As a class we discussed whether the story was fantasy or realistic fiction and justified our answers using our knowledge of each subgenre. The fantasy story we read was "Not Your Typical Dragon". The realistic fiction book was "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!"As we continue to read books at home and at school, I encourage the students to reflect on the genre of their book and provide reasoning for why they think it is that genre.

Art/ Christmas Door Decorating
Today was Fun Friday! We have a Door Decorating Contest happening where the best classroom door that represents Christmas Spirit wins a Pizza Party. This afternoon we worked very hard on putting our ideas into action and began to assemble the components for our door. I cannot wait to see what the final product will look like as the students worked very hard on putting everything together. I was very happy to have witnessed some terrific communication and teamwork amongst all classmates today!

AGENDA
