Unit of Inquiry:
We continued and completed our presentations today. It was great to see the variety of ways students demonstrated their learning. We did a great job at providing positive feedback and ways we could improve our presentations and work. We will be discussing more ways to provide helpful feedback to our peers.

Inquiry into Language:
We continued with writing our letter to Joshua. The students put their ideas together very well. Our focus was on ensuring we included the features of a letter and that the information we talked about in each paragraph related to each other. Once we finished the letter, we went back to edit the letter by using a red marker. We addressed the importance behind editing and how it helps us improve our work.

Reading Buddies:
Today we read to Mr. Foster's Grade 1 class. We are helping them practice retelling what they've read about by asking them comprehension questions related to the setting, characters in the story and plot.
Inquiry into Math:
Today was a review of how to solve subtraction equations. To help us understand the steps we have to follow, we worked on identifying what each number in the equation represented (the difference, 1st term or 2nd term). This helps us determine if our final step is to add or subtract or difference to the term we are provided with.
For example: If you have 27 - _____ = 50 - 45
27 is the first term
50 is the first term
45 is the second term
and the missing value is the second term
To solve this:
First: find the difference between the side you have both of your values to (50 - 45)
Second: Now you know your difference = 5, you need to subtract this from your first term (27) in order to solve the missing term (27-5 = 23)
Third: Check if 27 - 23 = 5, if it didn't then you would have to go and double check your steps to solve this again since both sides have to equal the same difference.
We worked on subtraction examples together, then went on to practice solving both addition and subtraction equations. The main focus was for us to learn how to show the steps we need to take in order for us to solve these problems.
